The Absorption Journey

THE ABSORPTION JOURNEY

Opportunity

Once you have been elected to take part in the Host Placement Opportunity, the following main components will be applicable:

Project
Our network partner, Mogapi, contracts with a Sponsor to implement a YES Initiative Project on their behalf. We therefore only have Youth available for placement when there is a project.
Sourcing

The process in terms of which eligible Youth are selected for participation in a YES Initiative Project and placement with a Host.

Sourcing can be done by a Host or by our network human resource partner, Abamandla.

Onboarding

The process in terms of which selected Youth are contracted to participate in a YES Initiative Project

This process entails various onboarding documents being signed by the selected Youth for example the Fixed Term Contract.

These documents are required for a Youth to participate in a YES Initiative Project. Onboarding will be coordinated by your Host Liaison and the team of Abamandla.

EMPLOYMENT
All selected Youth are required to enter a Fixed Term Employment Agreement with the Sponsor and/or Mogapi Education.

Even though the Host has not signed a contract of employment with placed Youth the Host will still have some responsibilities in relation to the Youth such as providing youth with a safe working environment, safe pathways to lodge grievances and acting in accordance with the relevant Labour Laws.

QUALITY WORK EXPERIENCE
The Host is required to provide the placed Youth with an actual on-the-job work experience. The purpose is that the Youth be more employable after the work experience than before.
TRACKING

The Host is required to track the attendance of the Youth at the Host workplace and submit the attendance register to the Host liaison via a link or directly to the Abamandla team on a weekly basis.

QUERIES & COMPLAINTS

Should the Host have any queries or complaints regarding any Youth or the placement, such should be lodged with BIGHEARTS.AFRICA.
Placement related queries will be attended to by our Hosting team.
Youth related queries will be handled by the Abamandla team.

FINANCIAL ASPECTS

The Sponsor has agreed to sponsor the stipends of the Youth participating in a YES Initiative Project. The sponsored stipends are connected to the National Minimum Wage at the relevant time.

The Host is required to liaise with the Host liaison, if the Host would like to provide further allowances or top-ups.

Hosts are required to pay a placement fee per Youth per month. The placement fee is raised in order to facilitate the administration of the placement, payment of Youth and provision of the human resource services.

ABSORPTION

Absorption into the permanent job market is our end goal for our Youth:

  • Initially we request an undertaking from the Host to absorb some of the Youth into permanent positions at the end of the YES program, once the permanent placements are done, the liaison team will request evidence of permanent employment for the sponsor.
  • When deciding to absorb, bear in mind that the evidence of absorption is a key factor in determining whether future placements will be made with the Host.
